Time for a TOT:
Justin, from http://phoenixtears.ca left a very interesting comment on my previous post entitled The Truth about Marijuana. His comment deserved its own post!
People, you have been lied to. Cannabis is not a harmful, destructive drug, but rather a tool that can be used for all of humanity. It was not until 100 years ago that ANYTHING bad was said about cannabis. Prior to then, in fact for the last 10,000 years, not only was cannabis legal, but it was revered. People used it in medicine, spiritual practice, and a whole host of industrial applications. In recent times, cannabis was demonized for purely racist and exaggerated reasons. Perhaps now, there are false studies indicating that cannabis has damaging health effects, but when it was made illegal, there was NOT ONE STUDY showing it was bad for you. Not ONE. Even anti-cannabis advocates cannot deny that cannabis was made illegal because of racism and fear.
After it was made illegal, the government refused to reverse its decision, and the longer it kept cannabis illegal, the harder it would be for them to legalize it, as it would reveal how stupid they had been. Therefore, they funded biased studies to show it was bad. Ironically, some of them inevitably backfired, such as the University of Virginia study that was meant to show cannabis hurt the immune system, and instead it showed that THC killed cancer cells.
There is abundant proof that cannabis is not a bad thing. Millions of Americans use it on a daily basis, and maintain high quality jobs and a family life. Millions more use it medicinally, and find it more effective than any other pharmaceuticals. For dissenters who say patients just want to “get high”, you should realize that the alternative pharmaceuticals available, including opiates, actually get you higher than cannabis. Therefore, it is clear this natural plant is superior to manmade, addictive pharmaceuticals.
Then there is Irvin Rosenfeld and others from the Federal IND program, who get their cannabis straight from the government. After consuming literally hundreds of pounds of cannabis, Irvin and other members had independent, full body analyses to see how the cannabis had affected them. Not even the most heavy stoners in the world have come close to how much Irvin Rosenfeld has smoked, and when he was analyzed, it was found that there were no bad effects from cannabis, except some small bronchial irritability. If you think people’s lives should be ruined because of a minor effect that the smoke has on the lungs, an effect that does not even produce any noticeable, inhibiting effects, then you are truly an evil person.
I cannot respect anyone who does not want cannabis legalized. Criminalization is pure evil. When you get arrested for possessing a natural, harmless plant, your life gets turned upside down. You have to pay thousands in legal fees, take time out of your week for probationary measures, and you are not allowed to consume a harmless substance that you truly enjoy, and this can last for a long time. Imagine if you loved playing video games and then were not allowed to play them for a full year. That’s what happens to many people who get arrested for possession, and it sucks.
Despite the horrors of recreational cannabis Prohibition, it is absolutely nothing compared to the denial of medicinal cannabis, which literally has amounted to a genocide several times greater than the Holocaust. Cannabis extract medicines, not smokable cannabis, have proven themselves to be great treatments for a multitude of conditions, including cancer, diabetes, MS, arthritis, heart disease, pain disorders, mental disorders, and virtually anything you can think of. I know people who have beaten cancer with hemp oil (a special type of extract) alone, as well as many who have seen it work for other things. I’ve seen it work myself to heal bacterial infections that even the most powerful pharmaceuticals did not work on. When the truth of this comes to light, there will be great, great hate towards the government for denying this medicine, and I would not be surprised if the hate turned violent.
That’s all. If you still choose to oppose legalization based on false information and hate, then you should be thrown in jail next time you take a sip of alcohol, smoke a cigarette, take a sleeping pill, or use prescribed medication. If you believe cannabis should be illegal, but alcohol and nicotine should not be, you belong in an asylum, because you are truly insane.
